Evidence-Based Treatments

These are some of the evidence-based treatments that I integrate into my work:

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is an evidence-based modality that engages both children/youth and their caregivers in developing skills to cope with life after a trauma or multiple traumas. This treatment helps reduce symptoms of traumatic stress in children and youth, within the context of safe relationships.

Attachment, Regulation, & Competency Framework (ARC)

ARC is a therapeutic framework that engages children/youth and their caregivers in establishing routines and practices that promote strong connection and healthy attachment. ARC takes into account that both kids and parents often need help in learning how to handle their "big emotions" and in expanding their Window of Tolerance, or to be able to move forward in a positive direction, even when life throws curveballs.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT provides hands-on skills for parents who are struggling with their child aged 2.5-7 who is having a difficult time being safe with their body or with following important directions at home, in childcare or school settings, and/or in public. This approach focuses on increasing warmth and the positive bond you have with your child first, and then provides skills around being safe, calm, and consistent in providing limits that increase a child's sense of security in the world.

Trauma & Grief Component Therapy (TGCT)

TGCT provides support and skills to a child or teen after they have experienced the death of an important person in their life. This intervention provides in-depth support around grief and loss-specific reactions, within the context of a trauma-informed approach.

When it comes to various EBT's, it can feel like alphabet soup. See below for descriptions of these therapies and how they are used.

Biofeedback Therapy

Biofeedback therapy is a body-based approach which involves using a heartrate monitor and visual cues to help individuals learn how to recognize when their body is calm vs. dysregulated. This intervention uses technology to train the body to access relaxation and personal control despite experiencing stress that can throw the body into dysregulation. With practice, children and adults alike can use their personal calming skills from biofeedback sessions in everyday life to manage anxiety and stress. Biofeedback on its own, and incorporated into psychotherapy sessions, can yield mental health benefits as well as physical benefits such as reducing hypertension and headaches, and improving focus and concentration.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT-informed therapy incorporates mindfulness and increased awareness of behavioral patterns, emotions, and thoughts to help with managing intense emotions in healthier, rather than less-than-healthy ways. DBT skills can be used to improve someone's day to day functioning, self-esteem, and relationships.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI involves exploring all the nuances of the push and pull between wanting to make changes in your life and understanding what is holding you back from making those changes that you want. MI is a relationally-focused, energizing approach that helps individuals clarify what they want and the steps they will take to get to where they want to be in life. This treatment approach helps folks find their own version of freedom from the things that hold them back from living a more flourishing life.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

ART is a transformational therapy involving eye movements and imagery to process not only traumatic and stressful memories, but also used to address day to day challenges including symptoms of depression, anxiety, phobias, and unhealthy coping strategies or relational patterns. ART's philosophy is to "keep the knowledge, lose the pain." The process gently and quickly helps the mind make new connections that facilitate healing. ART allows emotions and body sensations to move and shift rather than keeping you stuck with the distress of your memory or problem. ART is effective with both adults and children alike.
